How Spanish numbers work

Spanish numbers look intimidating but follow clear patterns . Learn 0–15 by heart (they are unique), then tens , then how to combine with y (and). After that, hundreds and thousands are predictable.

In Spain, large numbers use a full stop as thousands separator: 1.234 = mil doscientos treinta y cuatro. Decimals use a comma : 3,50 € .

0–15 — learn these first

Counting 1–20 — spoken drill

Say these out loud until they feel automatic. Notice how 16–19 fuse dieci- with the unit, and 21 becomes veintiuno (not veinte y uno ).
